2 ♫ video/action for route 34

[The feed opens to...an Abra. A sleeping Abra. Pretty normal Abra, actually. The camera follows the rise and fall of its little chest with an assiduity that almost seems alarming.]

I am gonna get this little sucker.

[That stage whisper would be Luke, who pointedly sets the camera down, presumably so that Johto can see how awesome his capture of his Abra will be. Somewhere close by, Zorua makes a long-suffering sound.

--and there Luke rushes forward, going in for the grab, only for the Abra to make its escape and leave him faceplanting against the ground.]

[A moment of silence, please. Zorua giggles.]

[Luke glowers at his pokemon, red-faced and expression flinty.]

This stupid thing's been running from me all morning! Why won't it stay in one place like a normal pokemon?! Zack, what do I do?!

[Someone might wanna mention that...there's more than one Abra.]

I tried to sneak up on it, and it didn't work! [He raises his Snubbull's pokeball to show her.] Someone said that I could paralyze it or something, so I'm going to use this new pokemon as bait, and then when it gets close--wham! She's gonna paralyze it.

Is she now? Then let's see it!

All right, hold on a sec--

[So, following:

A. Takuto's advice to get a pokemon that could paralyze: Snubbull with Lick, check. He sets the pokeball down on the grass.

B. Rose's suggestion of food bait: one large jar of pokemon-grade honey, check. He takes off the cap with ease.

C. Ryoji's suggestion of extra: a second jar of honey in a different flavor (one that Luke actually likes) and some coffee powder in case it doesn't like sweet things.

D. Ryoji's other, accidental suggestion...well, just wait and see.]

[Luke releases his new Snubbull, freshly caught, and she watches him looming over her appreciatively. She can respect a guy with guts, and he and his Zorua did beat her in a fight. She's totally ready to get to know him and make fri--without further ado, Luke tips the large honey jar over her head.]

[Snubbull's expression can be summarized thusly: ngvhjfdkghdjSDGHJKSFGS

She rubs at her ears and nostrils, eyes squeezed shut, making no sound. Zorua is watching the process with more than a little amusement--sucks to be you, sister--keeping the 'gear propped up so that Korra can see Luke's plan unfold.]

Stop squirming and hold still!

[It takes a solid three-quarters of the jar before Snubbull is completely covered. She looks...mildly catatonic.]

There! Now you're ready.

[ Okay.

What.

What.

Staring at that poor Snubbull. Sheesh, Korra can't help but feel sorry for it. ]

What-- You just dumped all that honey on your Pokemon?

That's your master plan? There's no way that's gonna work! Call it off!

[ Like, seriously, Luke. Are you stupid? ]

How do you know it's not gonna work? Don't be so negative. Someone told me pokemon love honey.

[He crouches next to Snubbull, indicating for Zorua to go and track down the Abra.]

All right; you gotta get close to it, and be sneaky. Once it smells the honey it'll come right up to you, and then you have to paralyze it. Got it?

[Overwhelmed, the Snubbull just nods, eyes as wide as saucers. Luke reaches for the gear again, then follows on Zorua's trail.]

[ Korra makes a rude noise at Luke's dismissal, but says nothing. She watches to see if Luke's seemingly harebrained idea actually works. Then she'll eat her own words. ]

[In their defense, it's a valiant attempt.]

[They manage to lure out an Abra! And it sure does love the honey.]

[In fact, Snubbull is probably mildly psychologically traumatized by this point because oh god strange pokemon licking me.]

[And then it's not just the Abra. Attracted by the honey, half the goddamn Route shows up for dessert, bowling over Luke. Zorua, too.]

[And then it's just a wild flailing honeyed mess of trying to extract his Snubbull from the throng of lickers and by then the Abra is long gone.]

[ Korra is just... wow, she couldn't even find any amusement from that display. She is just visibly shaking her head in displeasure, disappointment, and annoyance on how that turned out. ]

Right. Whoever gave you that amazing advice either didn't know what they were doing? ... Or deliberately was messing with you. Either way... great job, Luke.

[ The dripping sarcasm. Can you hear it. ]

[When Luke reappears, he looks more huffy than upset, but on the plus side, he's not begrudging the Snubbull a sticky, honey-covered hug as he cradles her in one arm. He's gonna need a shower after this, and to wash his clothes, but mostly he's just pissed off.]

Shut up! It's not my fault that advice was bogus! [It's never his fault, incidentally, but Korra will learn this in time.] Stop looking at me like that!

[ She rolls her eyes. ] Maybe I will if you give your Pokemon a proper apology! Just look at her!

[He looks down at Snubbull, somewhat chastised. In his heart of hearts, he feels bad, but he's not about to admit that.]

Hey, you're okay, right?

[Snubbull shakes for a moment before lifting her head, her face half-covered by his hair. Then she reaches up and licks his jaw a bit before burying her face in his neck.]

[Luke is not looking fond, what are you talking about, and also any pinkness on his nose is due to being out in the sun, plus his hair and Snubbull being close and reflecting on his skin. Nothing else could possibly be at work.]

...Guess I'm gonna have to find you a name, huh.

[Because fuck, he can't just dump her after that.]

[ A small grin spreads on Korra's face at the Snubbull's response and Luke's very clear attempt to not look like he's affected by this. ]

Hah. I'd give her more than that, if that's how she still feels after that abuse you put her through. [ Light scoff. ] Someone's gotta have faith in you, right?

[Luke huffs, visibly uncomfortable.]

Whatever. She made it out.

[The most roundabout, half-assed compliment ever.]

What should I call her, though?

[It's not like he gave much thought to his Zorua's name.]

You're asking me? She's your Pokemon, Luke. Give her something fitting her nature, or... or something meaningful to you both.

Who's it look like I'm asking? Jeez. [Another huff. He looks down at the Snubbull.]

I guess I'll call her Bruiser.

[The point <------------------------------> Luke]

Pfft, "Bruiser"? Really?

[He holds up the Snubbull, puffing out his chest.]

Doesn't she look like a 'Bruiser' to you?

[In response, Bruiser puffs up a little too.]

Snub.

[ SNRK. ] More like a honey-covered, pink dog. [ Grins. ] Not that she doesn't have any chance to prove that she can't be a bruiser to me.

Exactly!

[It's now that he remembers what Lion told him, when he first arrived--be their teacher, like your would want to be taught. He looks down at Bruiser, smiling.]

I'll teach you how to be awesome.

[This sounds promising. Keyword: 'sounds'.

It will probably be a failure, but he's coming from a good place, at least. Snubbull looks skeptical.]

Pfft. Let's hope that whole incident wasn't the first lesson.

[ Don't worry, Snubbull. Korra will look skeptical along with you. ]

For a show like that? I think I was quite rightly ripped off. I believe I have a right to complain.
